Vietnam Family Vacations: Travel Hanoi Tam Coc Hoa Lu Halong Bay Saigon Phan Thiet Beach 7 days

Day 1: Hanoi – Tam Coc – Hoa Lu – Hanoi.

We leave Hanoi at 08:00 and head south for the three-hour drive along Highway One. Arrive in Tam Coc, Ninh Binh around 11:00, we then take a three hour boat trip along the Boi River. This area is rightly often referred to as the “Ha Long Bay on land” due to the similar topography.

After lunch (included), we move on to Hoa Lu enjoying one hour cycling through peaceful countryside villages. We spend one hour visiting the Dinh and Le sanctuaries. These are the two remaining temples of the ancient citadel of Hoa Lu. The first is dedicated to Dinh Tien Hoang (also known as Dinh Bo Linh), an Emperor from the Dinh Dynasty. The second commemorates the rulers of the Le Dynasty. Then return to Hanoi.

Overnight in Hanoi.

Day 2: Hanoi – Halong bay. Cruise. Kayaking.

After breakfast, drive to Halong Bay through the fertile flood plains of the Red River Delta. Stop in route for a short rest or taking pictures of the everyday life sceneries (optional).

Arrive in Halong Bay at midday, embark on your comfortable junk at 12:00 and begin your cruise around majestic Halong Bay. Seafood lunch will be served on board. Explore limestone caves dotted around the bay, soak up the sun on the top deck or go kayaking.

Watch the sun set over the bay whilst enjoying a delicious dinner.

Day 3: Halong bay – Hanoi. Fly to Ho Chi Minh city (Saigon)

Brunch on board (Breakfast + Lunch). Then we continue our cruise while the boat is going back to shore. Arrive at Ha long wharf about 11h00 and join Lotussia Travel car again for the journey back to Hanoi.

Upon arrival in Hanoi, transfer directly to Noibai airport for a two-hour flight to Ho Chi Minh city.

You will be welcome at Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh city by another Lotussia Travel guide, driver and transferred to your hotel in town.

Day 4: Saigon city tour. Travel to Phan Thiet.

After breakfast, start discovering Ho Chi Minh City with the most important highlights such as the Post Office, cathedral, Reunification palace, centre town, then continue towards Cholon, visit Thien Hau temple and Binh Tay market.

After lunch (optional), drive to Phan Thiet. Check-in hotel and stay free at leisure for the rest of time.

Day 1: Overnight train to Laocai.    

Transfer to Hanoi Railways Station for overnight train to Laocai. Train??? Departure at 20:30 (TBA).

Overnight on board/train.

Day 2: Arrive Laocai. Chay river boat trip. Biking to Bac Ha.

Arrive Lao Cai early in the morning. You will be greeted by our local team & transferred to a local restaurant in town for early breakfast.

Travel by car or cycle from Lao Cai town to Coc Ly. The ride is relatively flat from Lao Cai. It will take you through rural area. The road is rougher for the last 16 km. Upon arrval in Coc Ly, take a boat cruise downstream Chay River. Along the ride, you can enjoy magnificent sight of the beautiful caves and life on the riverbank. Lunch will be provided in a Tay village.

After lunch, you first cycle on the dirt trail through the village and cross a narrow stream. Your ride will be then on a good road, which goes uphill towards Bac Ha town.

Diner in a local restaurant & overnight in Bac Ha.

Day 3: Visit Bac Ha Sunday market. Biking to Sapa.

After breakfast, take a short walk to visit the old castle of the former H’Mong King. From there you can have a view over the town. You will then visit this huge market with its colorful array of ethnic minority people such as Flower Hmong, Phu La, Black Dao, Tay, Nung who gather to buy and sell. After spending the whole morning exploring the market, your lunch will be served in a local restaurant. After lunch you will be able to take a nice ride around nearby beautiful Ban Pho village of Flower Hmong and Nung minorities. After visit Ban Pho village your start heading back towards Lao Cai by cycle (or by car). The ride will be mostly downhill and flat through rural area, which is home to Phu La, Nung and Tay minorities. Before you arrive in Lao Cai, you will be able to stop by china – Vietnamese border, where the Red River flows into Viet Nam territory. Then travel uphill to Sapa.

Day 4: Trekking Sapa hilltribe villages.

After breakfast, travel by car toward Muong Hoa valley. Your trek will begin from Tavan village of Giay minority. The first day trek will be mostly uphill. Whenever you stop for a rest, you will be able to enjoy valley view. Before noon, you stop again at a nice spot for lunch.

The trek will be softer in the afternoon. But the scenery becomes even more beautiful. You pass by Seomity village of Black Hmong minority before you arrive in a campsite, which locates nearby a river outside the village. While porters put up tents and cook dinner, you can take a walk to stretch the legs.

Day 5: Continue trekking Sapa.

The trek today takes you through beautiful rice paddies and over old suspension bridges. You will trek on small trail sneaking through rainforest. You arrive in Den Thang village of Black Hmong by noon. Here you stop for lunch either nearby a river or in a local school according to the weather.

After lunch, the Sapa trek wills becomes tough on tinny footpath going up and down, which requires some concentration. You will reach to Ta Trung Ho village of Red Dao minority where you spend the night in local house. Both the valley and the village have just received foreign visitors. The night will be even more interesting when you are in the wonderful hospitable atmosphere of the Red Dao.

Day 6: Trekking Sapa. Travel to Laocai. Overnight train back to Hanoi.

You are now at the fringe of the rain forest by the Hoang Lien Son mountain range. Fansipan, the highest peak in Indochina with its 3143 m, is located in this mountain range. You will start the trek today by ascending to Nam Toong village of Red Dao minority. Here your lunch will be prepared in a local school.

In the afternoon, before descending to Ban Ho, you can make a stop by a waterfall to refresh. On the last hours you can enjoy the valley one final time whilst trekking up to Su Pan, where your car takes you on the journey back to Sapa.

After a short rest in a local guesthouse/hotel (for shower), transfer to Lao Cai Railways station for the night train back to Hanoi.

Day 7: Arrive Hanoi. Travel to Halong bay. Boat/Junk cruise and sea kayaking tour.

Arrive in Hanoi early this morning, you will be greeted by Lotussia Travel guide, driver and transferred to a local restaurant in town for early breakfast.

Then enjoy one-hour massage in one of finest spa salon in Hanoi – A full body massage both invigorating and relaxing. This massage helps to reduce tension, soothe sore muscles and increase circulation.

Day 8: Halong bay scuba diving. Travel to Catba island.

Breakfast on board. At 9h00, will will be picked up at the boat/junk by our Diving Team and transferred by another wooden boat to the first divesite – Chim Island. Enjoy 01 dive before having lunch on board.

In the afternoon, we will move to another divesite – Me Cung Island. There we will enjoy one more hour diving before being dropped off in a simple eco-resort for overnight.

Dinner and overnight by the beach.

Day 9: Cat Ba island rock climbing. Travel to Hai Phong, then Hanoi.

Climbing in Cat Ba Island is one of the most personally rewarding and exhilarating activities. Meet up with our team and transfer to the small farming village of Lien Minh. Our expert will give Basic instruction and introduction to Rock Climbing. Then start your adventure experience in Butterfly Valley for about three hours before enjoying lunch on a bee farm with fresh local foods. Return to Cat Ba Town and take speed boat to Haiphong. Join our vehicle again and drive back to Hanoi.

Vietnam Family Holidays: Travel Hanoi Sapa Tam Coc and Halong bay 8 days

Day 1: Hanoi – Laocai by train.

In the evening, transfer to Hanoi Railways Station for the night train to Laocai. Overnight train.

Day 2: Arrive Laocai. Travel to Sapa. Hiking Sapa.

Upon your arrival at Lao Cai Railway Station, you will be met up by Lotussia Travel local guide, driver then transferred uphill to Sapa. After a short break and breakfast, provided in a local restaurant in town, transfer to Su Pan village, there we will start walking downhill through the breathtaking scenery. On the way  you will pass through the Ban Ho village where you will be able to witness the stunning views of the valley and rice paddy terraces. You will have the opportunity to explore the Ban Ho village of Tay minority before crossing the suspension bridge over the river. The walk then continues uphill to the Red Dao minority village of Nam Toong, where you guide will prepare a delicious lunch either in local school. After lunchtime, you descend to the valley where locates My Son village of Xa Pho minority, one of the smallest groups ethnic in Northern Vietnam. From there you take a short walk to Thanh Phu village of Tay minority. Here you spend the night in traditional house of the Tay. You can take a walk to explore local daily life while your dinner will be served with Vietnamese dishes.

Day 3: Continue trekking Sapa hill tribe villages.

Today’s trek will be relatively short and soft. Once leaving Thanh Phu, you follow the trekking route built in the bottom of the valley, which offers the best view to the surrounding mountains. You stop at a nice spot for lunch. After lunchtime, you continue the walk toward Sin Chai village of Red Dao minority where the night will be spent in Red Dao Village.

Day 4: Continue trekking Sapa. Travel to Laocai. Overnight train back to Hanoi.

You wake up for an early breakfast and repack your luggage for the long trek heading toward Lao Cai. Once you leave Sin Chai, the trip takes you into a fabulously mountainous area, the most remote part of Sapa. En route you meet children’ curious eyes as you are very first tourists passing by. Red Dao ethnic minority inhabits the entire area. You will enjoy the fresh of bamboo forest and jungle until you make a stop at Nam Ket for lunch. After lunch, your trek will be mostly downhill. After about half an hour, you will have an opportunity to enjoy one of the most beautiful views of days over a green valley lying along the Red River. You eventually arrive in Ta Thang village of Tay minority. Here you will be transferred by car to Lao Cai.

Day 5: Arrive Hanoi. Hanoi – Hoalu. Visit Dinh & Le temples. Cycle to Tam Coc. Sampan tour.

Arrive in Hanoi in the early morning, you will be met by another Lotussia Travel guide, driver then transferred to a local restaurant for early breakfast then depart to Hoa Lu, Ninh binh. The journey will take us around two hours and a half before we reach Hoa Lu, the first capital of Vietnam. Visit the historic capital of Viet Nam and the famous ancient temples of Le and The Dinh Dynasties.  Then we will cycle for an hour on picturesque quiet roads through villages, rice fields, rivers and rocky outcrops to Tam Coc, “Halong bay On-land”. After lunch, we will take a boat trip to visit TamCoc to see the beauty of the karst formations as you pass along their base and row into one of the many caves carved through the limestone. Overnight in Tamcoc.

Day 6: Tam Coc – Halong Bay.

Enjoy the journey through the rich farmlands of the Red River Delta and the scenery of rice fields. Arrive in Halong around noon and board the Bai Tho traditional sailing junk (or Duc Phuong junk). Whilst cruising the exquisite waters sample the regions fresh seafood. Visit the recently discovered Surprise Grotto with its great views, and on the next island see the yawning mouth of Bo Nau Cave. Enjoy a swim in the emerald waters of Halong Bay or walk uphill the Titop mountain to have a great view or take a kayak to paddle navigating through the “forest stones” emerging from the sea. Day 7: Kayaking Halong bay.

Breakfast on board. Then we continue kayaking zigzagging through many small islets of different shapes. The journey is really wonderfull and adventurous! Back to the support boat for our lunch which will be provided on board. In the afternoon, we cruise towards the Islands of Rocks and visit the Fishermen floating village. We will kayak in Ba Men temple area which is also a important highlight of our journey. Swimming at the sandy Three Peach beach if weather permits and enjoy the great view of Halong bay sunset. Day 8: Halong Bay – Hanoi.

overnight in the village.

Day 3: Continue trekking Sapa hill tribe villages. Transfer to Laocai for night train back to Hanoi.

After breakfast, we start our trek towards Sapa. We will pass through several minority villages; rive paddy terraces along the way. Upon arriving in Matra village inhabited by Black Hmong people, we will stop for our lunch. Then, we continue our walk to Sapa. Have a short rest/shower before transfer to Lao Cai station and get the night train back to Hanoi. Train???. Departure at 20:30 (TBA).

Day 4: Arrive Hanoi early morning. Travel to Halong Bay. Cruise. Kayaking.

Arrive in Hanoi in the early morning, you will be met by another Lotussia Travel guide, driver then transferred to a local restaurant for early breakfast then depart to Halong bay.  Enjoy the journey through the scenery of rice fields, water buffalo and everyday Vietnamese village life.

Arrive in Halong around noon and board the Bai Tho traditional sailing boat/junk (or similar boat/junk). Whilst cruising the exquisite waters sample the regions fresh seafood. Brunch (Breakfast + Lunch) will be served on board while the boat is going back to shore. Arrive at Ha long wharf about 11h00 and take our car for our journey back to Hanoi.

Upon arrival in Hanoi, transfer to Noibai airport for a short flight to Ho Chi Minh city.

Welcome at Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh city by Lotussia Travel guide, driver and then transferred to your hotel in town. Overnight in Ho Chi Minh city.

Day 6: Cycling the Mekong Delta (Saigon – Caibe – Can Tho).

After breakfast, transfer (approx 2 hrs) to My Tho to avoid the teeming traffic. My Tho is the gateway to the Mekong Delta and a wonderful place to start our ride. In My Tho, unload the bikes and start to pedal on the beautiful and quiet country lanes along the Tien River to Cai Be. Along the way, pass through the heart of rural Mekong along narrow lanes, passing banana plantations, sugarcane fields and the lush rural landscape of the Delta. After Cai Be, cross on Dinh Khao ferry to Cho Lach. After the ferry, cycle for a couple of kilometres and then shuttle the rest way to Can Tho. Overnight in Can Tho.

Day 7: Continue cycling the Mekong delta. Travel back Ho Chi Minh city.

After enjoying an early morning breakfast visit the Cai Rang floating market, weave through teeming early morning market bustle along the banks of an active riverfront. Ride on a narrow paved road to Phong Dien floating market. Absorb the sights of endless cottage industries, timber merchants, coconut shredders, small docks loading/unloading rice, tiny vibrant markets. Continue by bike on the narrow lane to explore the hidden backwaters of the Mekong Delta. Local lunch in town. In the afternoon return to Saigon.

Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau. Mai Chau village treks.

Depart Hanoi for Hoa Binh province and the town of Mai Chau. This scenic drive takes around three and half hours. Along the way we pass fields of tapioca and sugar cane as well as rice paddies. Arrive in Mai Chau valley around noon. After lunch, we leave the village for a half day walking around. We will pass many different Thai hamlets, through rice fields, hill sides…We will stop by some local houses to talk with local people to understand their customs and culture. In the evening, assist to the traditional music and dance show which is performed by The Thai young girls and boys (optional). Overnight in a stilt house.

Day 2: Mai Chau – Tam Coc. Sampan cruise tour.

A contrasting and more challenging ride today, though there is plenty of opportunity to stop, rest and admire the views. After breakfast enjoy a four hour drive to Tam Coc, also called “Ha Long Bay on land”, or the “Vietnam’s second nicest grotto” (to Huong Tich) for its poetic and inspirational natural scenery. After your lunch which will be provided at local restaurant, we will take a two hour boat trip around natural caves and grottoes, admire the wonderful landscape of the tourist area.  The trip in Tam Coc is wonderful for photo hunters, especially when local people come to harvest the water rice planted along the river, or when they transplant some seedling for the next crops. Overnight in Tam coc, Ninh Binh.

Day 3: Tam Coc – Halong Bay. Boat cruise.

Enjoy the journey through the rich farmlands of the Red River Delta and the scenery of rice fields, water buffalo and everyday Vietnamese village life. In the afternoon, we will move to another divesite – Me Cung Island. There we will enjoy one more hour diving before being dropped off at another boat-house for overnight. Dinner and overnight at local boat-house.

Day 5: Halong bay kayaking.

Breakfast on boat. Transferred by support boat to Hai Pies Beach. Briefing and gear-up before start paddling through Lan Ha Bay to ward Ba Trai Dao beach for a lunch break.

In the afternoon, paddle along the cliff through Monkey Lagoon to Ranger’s base. Fresh seafood home cooked dinner then bunk down in your tents on the front yard.

Day 6: Continue kayaking. Travel to Hai Phong. Return Hanoi.

After our popular big breakie, navigate your way through quiet small bays through floating fish farms. Lunch break on the way before docking at Gia Luan to take the local shuttle bus to Cat Ba town. Then take hydrofoil to Hai Phong where your car will be ready for your journey to Hanoi. Trip ends.
